Syrian filmmaker to participate in Resistance Filmfest

Syrian movie and TV director Basil al-Khatib is to take part in the 15th Resistance International Film Festival.

Al-Khatib previously attended the 14th edition of Resistance Film Festival and won the special jury award for his movie ‘Syrians’.

Basil al-Khatib is a Syrian movie and TV director from a Palestinian origin. He was born in the Netherlands. His father is the Palestinian poet Yousif al-Khatib.

Basil al-Khatib is one of the most prolific Syrian directors who, during the postwar years, played a prominent role in the resistance filmmaking in Syria.

He has never forgotten his Palestinian origin and has made many cinematic contributions to the occupied Palestinian territories.

Al-Khatib exposed in an interview that the Cannes Film Festival refused his movie ‘Maryam’ themed on Syria civil war to enter the competition; saying that, in spite of the great artistic value of the film, it could not be screened since it was produced by the Ministry of Culture of Syria.

The Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) is regarded as one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Iran.

The goal of the Festival is to create an atmosphere of dialogue, understanding of current human sufferings, and to share experiences and new ideas.

The festival will be held on November 26-December 1, 2018, at Felestin Theater Hall in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
